Pottery Wheel Throwing 101 Wild Womyn Studio

4 Week Class - 2 Classes Per Week
Cost: $180 (includes clay & kiln firings)
Maximum of 3 People Per Session

This is a beginner's class.
After the first week of classes the first class will be for throwing and the second consecutive class day will be for trimming and finishing your work. The first class of each week will be 1-1/2 hours long and the second day will be approximately 1-1/4 hour.

Be sure to wear old clothes and shoes because you will get clay on you. Extra wheel time is $20 per hour, providing your own clay. (I usually have extra bags of clay for purchase.)


First Week

1st Session: Introduction & Orientation

  • Learn about clay bodies, low, medium, and high fire.
  • Learn about different types of wheels, bats, and tools.
  • Learn to wedge.
  • Learn how to use a potter's wheel.
  • Learn about trimming. Also learn set up and clean up procedures of the studio.
  • Wedge and throw (Blow day)

2nd Session:

  • Wedge and throw (Blow day)


Second Week

3rd Session:

  • Wedge and throw (Red clay, low fire)

4th Session:

  • Trim and finish work for green ware firing


Third Week

5th Session:

  • Wedge and throw (White clay, medium fire)

6th Session:

  • Trim and finish work


Fourth Week

7th Session:

  • Wedge and throw (Black clay or clay of your choice)

8th Session:

  • Trim and finish all work and glaze


A non refundable deposit of $25 is due two weeks before the first class date or as soon as possible to reserve your spot. The balance is due on the first day of class.
